Celia Lury en UDP

La Facultad de Ciencias Sociales e Historia invita a la tercera versión de la Cátedra Norbert Lechner 2014. En esta ocasión nos visitará  Celia Lury, directora del Centro de Metodologías Interdisciplinarias de la Universidad de Warwick, Inglaterra. La académica ha centrado su trabajo en la investigación de género, la teoría feminista y la sociología de la cultura. Entre sus publicaciones más recienten destaca “What is the empirical: a Special Issue of European Journal of Social Theory (co-editado con Lisa Adkins), Inventive Methods, (co-editado con Nina Wakeford, Routledge, 2012) y Measure and Value (co-editado con Lisa Adkins, Blackwell, 2012).

La conferencia se llevará a cabo el miércoles 15 de octubre a las 11:30 horas en el auditorio de la Biblioteca Nicanor Parra, ubicado en Vergara 324, Metro Los Héroes. La actividad contará con traducción simultánea.

Can the pipe speak? An interview with Timothy Mitchell

Timothy Mitchell is a political theorist and historian and currently a professor and chair of the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University. Mitchell’s research has focused on the Middle East, particularly Egypt’s recent history, but his work on subjects such as the making of modernity, the material and technical politics of modern States, and the role of economics and other forms of expert knowledge in governing collective life has influenced scholars from different “areas”, including certainly several of the contributors of this blog. In the interview podcasted in this post, which was carried out in Columbia University last January 24^th, we discuss Mitchell’s work in chronological order[i], from Colonising Egypt (1991) to Carbon Democracy (2011).
